I tried Loreal True Preference (the one for dark hair only) and it didn't even work that good on my naturally dark brownish-black hair, and I'm wondering what brands will really work.

I wouldn't color your own hair. Go to a professional. Believe me....been there done that. You want your hair to stay healthy and hold shine. It is worth the money to have a colorist do it for you..... :) Hope this helped....
