I had dark blonde hair with light blonde highlights. The highlights had grown out about 6 inches during my pregnancy, so I decided to get Loreal Excellence Cream and apply the all over color in light ash blonde. The 6 inches at the top of my head (which was a darker blonde without highlights) turned copper / orange and very brassy. The rest of my hair is a blonde color. How can I fix this? When I called Loreal they said the only thing I could do was color over all of my hair with a brown color.

I too am a licensed cosmetologist, and your best bet is too go to a salon and have them fix it. You could try to go to a local hair supply store and purchase a shampoo called Shimmer Lights (in a purple bottle) which is a deep violet color shampoo. The violet color of the shampoo helps to tone down the orange (brassiness) of the hair. I too am a blonde, and use the Shimmer lights product once every other week when I think my hair is looking brassy. If you have a Sally Beauty Supply store, they will have the shampoo there. Good luck!!

Unfortunately, that's about all you can do. Most store hair color products are permanent. So, they lift your hair with ammonia every single time you color. That isn't good for your hair. You need a semi-permanent color, probably a shade of brown that will cover the blonde too. However, if you go too many shades darker, it isn't going to look right because you are trying to cover too many layers of pigment that are gone. It'd be best to go to a salon or a beauty school for a color correction. You'll need your hair filled an in between color, to go blonde to brown successfully. Using a store product probably won't bring you a good result.

honestly-go to a professional...especially when dealing with lighter colors like that you may need to get some bleach involved, and you wanna talk about orange!!! salons have everything-the bleach, and the non harsh toner they use after to blend everything and make it a normal color
--it will be much better for the condition of your hair too--
